Inspection and test plan support

An inspection and test plan is the document that decides when work stops for somebody to look at it. Its value is in the hold points being in the right places and understood by everyone before the work starts, not in the formatting. Aldbry drafts ITPs from the specification and your standard plans, and every inspection decision stays with the people qualified to make it.

What an ITP has to do

Stop the work at the right moments

Most ITP problems are not errors in the document. They are hold points nobody agreed to or nobody saw.

01

Hold points that actually hold

A hold point only works if the people doing the work know it is there. One buried in a document nobody read is not a control.

02

Witness points and notice periods

The client or their agent needs telling in time. Notice periods that are unrealistic get ignored, which is worse than not having them.

03

Traceable to the specification

Every check should trace to a requirement. Checks with no source tend to be inherited from a previous job.

04

Evidence defined up front

What will be recorded, by whom, on what form. Deciding this afterwards is how quality records end up incomplete.

What we do

Drafted from the specification, not from last time

  • Requirements extracted from the specThe checks that the specification and the contract actually require, traced back to the clause they come from.
  • Hold and witness points set outWith notice periods stated, so the client relationship is managed by the document rather than by phone calls.
  • Aligned to your standard plansProduced in your ITP format so it slots into the quality system you already run.
  • Inspection stays with competent peopleWhether work passes is a judgement by the person inspecting it. The plan says when to look, not what to conclude.

Being straight about it

What is live and what is not

Inspections and Quality is a Corvleo module in development. Inspections and Quality, Progress Reporting and Handover Packs are in development. We do not describe a module as live until it is running on a real site. So ITP work today is consultancy and managed service rather than a product you log into, and we would rather say that than imply otherwise.

Site Diaries, RAMS Assurance and Subcontractor Onboarding are live on UK construction sites with a small number of contractors. Those cover the capture side, which matters here because an ITP is only as good as the evidence recorded against it.

The records that accumulate against an ITP, and the trail that has to survive to handover, are covered on our quality records management page.

Common questions

Questions about inspection and test plan

How can construction firms use AI to cut admin?

Construction firms cut admin with AI by applying it to the documents they already produce every week, not by replacing the people who produce them. The work that responds best is repetitive and document-shaped: site diaries written from spoken notes, subcontractor packs checked for missing insurances and expired cards, RAMS cross-checked for conflicts and gaps before a competent person signs them off, and progress records assembled from what was already captured on site. Aldbry applies AI inside your existing workflows rather than asking you to move to a new platform, and a competent person reviews and signs off every output. If you want to size the problem before spending anything, the Construction Admin Cost Calculator gives you a headline figure in a couple of minutes.

Will it work with our CDE and existing systems?

Yes, that is the design intention: Corvleo works alongside a Common Data Environment and feeds records into it rather than replacing it. Your CDE is the filing system, where documents are stored, controlled and shared. Corvleo sits a layer underneath, producing and checking the documentation in the first place, so what lands in the CDE is clean and consistent. In practice we also work inside the tools your teams already use day to day, such as Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, SharePoint or shared drives, and your project platforms where they allow integration.

What is the difference between a hold point and a witness point?

A hold point stops the work: the activity cannot proceed past it until the nominated party has inspected and released it. A witness point invites the nominated party to attend, but if they do not attend within the notice period the work may continue and the check is recorded by the contractor. The distinction matters commercially as well as technically, because hold points carry programme risk and witness points carry notice obligations. Getting them the wrong way round is one of the more expensive ITP mistakes, and it is usually inherited from a plan copied off a previous job.

Who signs off an inspection and test plan?

The ITP is normally produced by the contractor and accepted by the client or their representative before the work starts, with the specification setting what has to be covered. Sign-off against individual hold and witness points then sits with whoever the plan nominates, which may be your engineer, the client's representative, a third-party inspector or a combination. Drafting the plan and compiling the evidence against it does not change any of that. The judgement about whether work conforms is made by a competent person looking at the work.
